It’s how the cops know who is drunk or a new driver.

Their driving privileges need to be revoked until such time as they can prove they aren’t an absolute imbecile.

Im going to take this time to complain about a fucking Civic bro from last night.

Im doing 90 in Detroit. Yea, I know. Anyways a SI is catching me with its fucking brights on, in a city …. with lighted highways …. yeeaaaa. Then this guy proceeds to try to race me/stay just behind me, all while never leaving the fast lane with very little traffic. After a few miles I got pissed enough to just slam on my brakes, get behind him and turn my brights on until he turns his brights off and gets out the fast lane.

I know you’re probably leaving the dream cruise like I was too braaahhh, but come on.

I’m guessing he’s referring to DRLs. Not high beams.

At least most headlights these days aren’t like the late 80’s-90’s F150’s. I swear even the lows were brighter than most high beams. And they would always be aimed directly in my eyes in the rearview mirror.

As I was reading this I thought “ok well this seems worthy of a semi-aggressive brake check”. Then I read “I got pissed enough to just slam on my brakes.” Fair play.

I purposely aimed my headlights just a tad high (not towards other cars, just a smidge higher than factory) and have 55W halogen high beams, and I’m kind of itching for a brighter high beam too. When people come towards me with their brights on, they get the message super quick when I turn mine on.

It’s not a brake check if they’re in separate lanes.

Pro tip: Do not Google “high beams” at work.

I have noticed a trend in the past couple years, people don’t turn off their highbeams for oncoming traffic anymore. Like at all. I think it’s because as we see above, people are getting stupider. I blame electronic nannies and automation; people are forgetting how to operate things that aren't “intuitive” and “touchscreen.” Can anyone else confirm?

Sorry should of been more clear, I was in the middle lane pretty much the entire time. So it wasn’t really a brake check, thats why I did the whole sweep-behind-and-flash-him move.

Not much traffic at 1am in Detroit. But IMO that makes it worse for the Civic driver. He could have passed with no problem. “Nah tho, I’m gonna try to race this crossfire, then ill just stay behind him (one lane over) with my brights on.”

I’m not sure if more people are just leaving their high beams on, or if newer cars just come with much brighter low beams that blind other drivers. Either way, I’ve seriously considered wearing sunglasses at night.

I had a ‘76 Cadillac Fleetwood once, it had a light sensor in the front bumper that would automatically dim the high beams for oncoming lights. They had this tech in 1976!!!!! Where the hell is it today?!

Yeah this happens all too often in metro Detroit. Especially around dream cruise weekend. Everyone working off the pent-up boyracer/road-rage from being stuck on the parking lot Woodward turns into.

This is so symptomatic of the people who can’t see a situation from someone elses viewpoint. I’ll give you another example. Two weeks ago we were at my wife’s cousin’s wedding. The hotel we’re at has a nice outdoor (gas) fire pit with chairs all around it. Its a beautiful night, and a majority of the seats are taken. I’m with my inlaws and we run into some other family members. My mother-in-law immediately breaks out her phone and starts taking photos with flash. I can see this is disturbing others as having a flash going off in ones face at night is never pleasant. I bring this up to her and she can’t fathom why anyone would have an issue with it. I point out that no one else of the 20-30 people are taking photos with flash, but that gets ignored too. As you can imagine people start leaving.

This is just one example of many instances I've seen.
